About me

My working life so far....

Growing up in the Netherlands, I loved the mindset of Pippi Longstocking:

“I have never tried that before, so I think I can do it.”

That mindset has stayed with me over the years.

My first real experience of hard work was in a vegetable shop. The run-up to Christmas was relentless. The long days, constant queues, and very short breaks. It showed me early on that behind busy periods and good results, there’s always effort and discipline.

At seventeen, I trained as a nurse and went on to work on a trauma surgery ward in Rotterdam. It was a fast-paced environment where communication, preparation, and responsibility were part of every shift.

I still remember working evening shifts alone with fourteen patients, relying on a handwritten overview to keep track of everything. When a doctor asked something, I needed to know the answer immediately. That experience taught me how to stay calm, think clearly, and work independently under pressure.

Later, I moved into intensive care and worked as an organ donation procedure coordinator. The level of responsibility increased significantly. Supporting families through difficult moments while coordinating medical teams required clear communication, organisation, and the ability to make calm decisions in challenging situations.

After leaving healthcare, I explored different ways of working and problem-solving. I spent time in policy work, became a webmaster, and eventually started my own small DIY service, helping older people with practical jobs around the house.

That hands-on work led me into maintenance after moving to Oxford. The fault finding, repairs and improving systems made me realise how much I enjoy solving problems.

That interest naturally developed into electrics. I was drawn to the logical side of the work combined with the practical, hands-on aspect.

To build a proper foundation, I completed the Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations.

I’m now looking for an opportunity to learn from experienced electricians, gain site experience, and continue developing towards becoming a fully qualified electrician
